How about that launch folks?

Well the release of the beta didn't quite go as planned. But after several days of severe server problems it now seems like we made it out alive.

I had high hopes when the beta was released. The game platform was both more stable and faster than before so I expected nothing but pure awesomeness. Well, maybe not, but at least I expected a smooth transition from the prototype.

But as most of you now know that didn't happen. The web server went into an unexpected behavior and kept throwing complex error messages every 5-10 minutes or so. I managed to narrow the problem down to what seemed to be a database related error. Before releasing the beta I upgraded the database to the latest version. It seemed to work well in my development environment but when it went live hell broke loose. But thanks to great support and many sleepless nights the problem now seems to be solved.

Prototype shut down

The plan was to keep the prototype alive and let current users sign right into the beta without register a new account. It worked great at first but when the web server started go up and down it became obvious that it wasn't capable of running both the prototype and the beta at the same time. I wish I had a new strong and shiny web server, but I don't. Therefore I had no choice but to turn the prototype off.

That means that prototype users now have to sign up for a new account to be able to join the beta. If you would like to keep your reputation and stats please send a request containing your account info to hello@gameplanhockey.com and I'll transfer it manually as quickly as I can. Note. You'll have to create a new account first.

Instead of letting just prototype users choose whatever league level they'd like, now everyone who sign up for beta gets this choice. I'll have to think of something else to promote you that have been trying out the prototype.

Hopefully we can now spend our time continuing to develop the game in stead of just troubleshoot all the time.

Fingers crossed
