Privacy policy
In short
- We collect only what the game needs to run, and what keeps it fair.
- We never sell your information, and we show no ads.
- We use one cookie, the one that keeps you signed in.
- Our statistics about how the site is used are anonymous and stay on our own server.
- You can ask to see, correct or delete your information at any time.
1. Who is responsible
Game Plan Hockey Manager is a hobby project run by one person, Anders Granberg, in Sweden. He is responsible for the personal information described here. Contact: hello@gameplanhockey.com.
2. What we collect when you play
Your account. You sign in with your email address and a one-time code we email you. There is no password. We use your email address to send sign-in codes and messages about your account, never for marketing.
Your manager profile. Your manager name and country are shown to other managers in the game, for example on team pages, in league and history lists, and in the chat.
What you do in the game. Your teams, lineups, tactics, trades, offers, achievements and messages in the in-game chat are stored because they are the game. Chat messages are visible to the other managers in that chat.
Your sign-in activity. We store when you last played, which tells the game which clubs are still managed. We also keep the IP addresses of your last 10 visits. We use them only to detect cheating, such as one person running several accounts in the same world.
Club logos you upload. If you upload a logo for your club, we store the image, a copy of it on a light and a dark background for the review, when you uploaded it, when you confirmed that you have the right to use it, and the outcome of the review with its reason. Until a logo is approved, no one sees it but you and the person reviewing it. Once it is on your club, anyone who sees your club sees it, in the game and on the site. We get an email when a logo is waiting for review, with your manager name.
Patreon. If you support the game on Patreon and link your account, we store your Patreon user and membership ids, your pledge status and the date of your last payment, so that your Premium works. We match backers to accounts by email address. We never receive your card or payment details; Patreon handles all payments.
Emails you send us. If you write to support@gameplanhockey.com or hello@gameplanhockey.com, we keep your message and our replies for as long as we need them to help you. Ask us and we delete them.
3. Statistics about how the site is used
We count visits to understand how the site is used: which pages are read, how visitors find us, and where new managers stop on their way into the game. We do this with our own installation of Umami on our own server. No other company receives the data.
- What is recorded: the page visited, the website you came from, your country, region and city, your browser, operating system, device type and language, and whether you were signed in. We also record a few anonymous actions: a sign-in code sent or accepted, a team chosen when starting a career, clicks on Patreon links, a page that was not found, opening the Manager’s Guide from the game, what was searched for in the guide (shortened to 50 characters), and whether a game was watched or its result revealed on the screen that waits after your club has played.
- What is not recorded: no cookies, no link to your account or email address, no page titles, no team or player ids from the address, and nothing you write in the chat or anywhere else in the game.
- Your IP address is used only in passing, to work out your country and to create a visitor code that changes every day. The address itself is never stored.
- How long: 24 months, then deleted automatically.
- Opting out: set “Do Not Track” in your browser and nothing is recorded.
4. Cookies and storage in your browser
We set one cookie: the sign-in cookie that keeps you logged in. Without it the game cannot work, so it needs no consent. We use no advertising, tracking or third-party cookies.
The site also remembers a few settings in your browser’s own storage, for example how you like your roster shown, a banner you chose to hide, or an unsent chat message. This stays on your device and is never sent to us.
5. Why we may use your information
- To provide the game you signed up for: your account, your clubs, sign-in codes, Premium (contract).
- To keep the game fair and secure and to understand how the site is used: cheat detection, server logs and the anonymous statistics above (legitimate interest).
- To follow the law where it requires us to keep or hand over information (legal obligation).
6. Who else handles your information
We use a small number of services to run the game. Each one handles only what it needs for its job:
-
Hetzner (Germany) hosts the game and its database. Backups are stored with Hetzner in Finland.
-
Resend delivers our emails, such as your sign-in codes. Resend is based in the United States, so your email address is transferred there under the EU’s standard contractual clauses.
-
Patreon (United States) handles all payments if you choose to support the game. Patreon’s own privacy policy applies there.
-
ImprovMX (United States) receives email sent to our addresses and forwards it to our inbox, so your email address and message pass through the United States.
-
Google (Gmail) stores that inbox and our replies.
-
Brevo (France) sends our replies when you email us, which is usually a support question. Brevo adds a small anonymous image to those replies that counts whether one was opened, and routes their links through Brevo’s own address to count clicks, without recording who opened or clicked. This applies only to our replies to you: emails the game sends, such as your sign-in codes, go through Resend and carry no tracking.
-
Anthropic (United States) provides Claude, the AI assistant the person running the game works with to answer support email and to look after the game: for example to investigate a cheating report, find out why something went wrong in a world, or correct an account. While he does that, the information it involves can pass through Claude, such as your email address, manager name, recent IP addresses, your clubs and the message you sent us. He also reviews the club logos managers upload with Claude’s help, so each uploaded image passes through Claude. It is used only for these tasks. It is not used for marketing, and Claude makes no decisions about your account on its own: every decision is his. Anthropic keeps this information for a limited time under its own terms, and we have chosen that it is not used to train Anthropic’s AI models.
We never sell your information or share it for marketing.
7. How long we keep it
- Your account and game history are kept while your account exists, so a returning manager finds their career where they left it. Ask us and we delete them.
- Club logos you upload are kept while your account exists, until you delete them from your library or ask us to. Closing your account deletes them. The review copy is deleted once the logo has been reviewed.
- IP addresses in cheat detection: the last 10 per account.
- Server logs, which include IP addresses: 14 days.
- Emails to support: as long as we need them to help you.
- Backups: 30 days, then overwritten.
- Visit statistics: 24 months.
8. Your rights
You can ask us to show you the information we have about you, correct it, delete it, or stop using it for a purpose based on legitimate interest. Email hello@gameplanhockey.com. We may ask you to confirm that the account is yours, and we will answer within a month.
If you think we handle your information wrongly, you can complain to the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY, imy.se).
9. Security
Your information is stored on our own server in the EU and is reached only over encrypted connections. The person running the game has access to it, also when he works with the AI assistant described in section 6. The volunteer admins of a game world can see the account details of the managers in their world, including email address and recent IP addresses, so that they can investigate cheating and help with support. They may not use it for anything else.
10. Changes to this policy
When something changes we update this page and the date below. This version applies from 30 October 2026.
