Managers talk in the in-game chat — your world's public channels and private conversations with any manager — and on the game's Discord server. Admins keep the channels in order, and the terms of use set what you may write.

On this page

The other managers are your trade partners, your rivals and the people who know the game best. You reach them in the chat inside the game and on Discord.

Where managers talk

Open Chat in the sidebar to talk with other managers while you play; on a phone it is the last button in the bar at the bottom of the screen. For the community outside the game, follow the Discord link in your user menu or in the footer of the public site.

The chat opens in a panel beside the page, so you can keep a roster or a trade in view while you talk.

The chat

The panel lists your world’s public channels, your private conversations and your world’s admins. Above them, Online now shows who else is in the game right now, your own world’s managers first; press a face to message that manager.

Messages are plain text, 1 to 500 characters, and a counter under the message box keeps count. New messages appear by themselves while the panel is open.

The Chat button tells you when something is waiting: a number for unread messages in your private conversations, or, when there are none, a dot when your league’s Trade talk channel has new messages.

A free account sees the latest 30 messages in each channel and conversation; Premium shows the whole history. The older messages are kept, so they show again once you have Premium.

Channels

Every world has seven public channels: General, and one Trade talk channel for each league, such as Trade talk – CHL. Post in General about anything in the world, and in a league’s Trade talk about that league — trades above all.

Your own league’s Trade talk comes first in the list, marked as your league, then General, then the other leagues.

The channels belong to their world. Only managers who run a club there, and the world’s admins, can read them, so you see none until you run a club. If you run clubs in two worlds, the panel shows the channels of the world you are playing in on that page.

Each post shows the writer’s club in that world.

Private conversations

A private conversation is between you and one other manager, whatever world either of you plays in. Start one with New message: under Find a manager, type at least two letters of a manager’s name or a club’s name and pick from the list.

You can also start one from:

  • Message manager on another manager’s card, or in the Actions menu of a club another manager runs.
  • A writer’s name in a channel.
  • A face under Online now, or a name in the Admins list.

The conversation starts with your first message; opening it sends nothing. Find a manager lists the managers who have signed in recently. In the list, conversations with unread messages come first, then the most recent.

If the other manager’s account is deleted, the conversation shows them as Former manager. You can still read the conversation, but not reply.

Mentioning players

Type @ in the message box and start on a player’s name, then pick him from the list. If you offer or ask about a player, mention him: readers who play in that world see his position and current Overall, and can open his panel.

The list shows your own team’s players first, then players already mentioned in the conversation, then the rest. A message can mention up to 5 players.

A mentioned player shows as a chip with his position, surname and Overall — as he is when the message is read, not when it was sent. The chip opens his player panel when he plays in the world you are playing in.

In a channel you mention players of that world. In a private conversation you mention players of the world you are playing in on that page, and only where you run a club. A name that matches no player there stays plain text.

Admins and moderation

Each world has admins who look after it. If you see something in your world that breaks the rules, message one of them: the Admins list in the panel shows your world’s admins who have been active this month, the most recently active first, with when each was last in the game.

An Admin badge marks an admin’s name in your world’s channels.

An admin can remove a message from a channel; it disappears for every player. An admin can also mute a manager in that world’s channels, and the top admins can mute a manager everywhere, private conversations included. A muted manager can still read along but cannot post until an admin lifts the mute, and the panel says so where they would type.

The admins you meet in the game cannot read or remove a message in a private conversation.

If you post many messages in a short time, the chat asks you to wait before the next one and tells you how long.

What you may write

You are responsible for everything you write in the game. The terms of use rule out anything racist, offensive, illegal, obscene or defamatory, and any advertising, politics, weapons or drugs.

Game Plan Hockey decides whether a message breaks these rules, and can remove the message, suspend the account, or both. If you post a link, you answer for what it shows.

The full terms are under Terms & privacy in the footer of the public site. The rules on cheating and fair play are on fair play.

Discord

Discord is where the community lives outside the game. Open it from Discord in your user menu — press your name at the bottom of the sidebar; on a phone, open the menu and press your name there — or from the footer of the public site.

Discord is its own service with its own account: nothing written there shows in the chat, and nothing in the chat reaches Discord.

Worth knowing

  • The game’s admins cannot read or remove a message in a private conversation, though a mute from the top admins also stops you posting there.
  • A mentioned player shows as he is when the message is read — his position and Overall now, not when it was sent.
  • A message an admin removes disappears for every player, with no trace left in the channel.
  • A free account’s older messages are kept, and Premium shows the whole history again.
