Your account

You sign in with a code sent to your email, and everything about your account — profile, preferences and plan — sits under Settings in the user menu. Premium comes through Patreon, with a monthly coupon code.

On this page

There is no password to remember: you sign in with a code sent to your email. Your profile, your preferences and your plan all sit under Settings in the user menu.

Signing in

Enter your email and press Send sign-in code. The game emails you a 6-digit code; enter it and press Sign in.

New and returning managers use the same door. If the email is new to the game, signing in creates your account and takes you to Career Start to find your first club; if you already run a club, you land on it.

A code doesn’t last forever. If yours has expired or never arrived, press Resend code once the short wait is over. Sign out is in the user menu, which opens from your name at the bottom of the sidebar.

If you played on the old site and can no longer open the email you signed up with, press Change the email on your account on the sign-in page. You prove it is you once with your old password, then pick an email you can open, and a code confirms it. From then on you sign in with the new address.

Settings

Open Settings from the user menu. It has three sections: Profile for who you are, Preferences for how the game looks to you, and Account for your plan.

The top of Settings shows your name, your flag, the year you started managing and your plan, Free or Premium.

Each row under Preferences saves the moment you change it:

  • Hide results — spoiler protection. With Hide my games, the default, a game of your club’s waits for you to watch it or reveal the result before the rest of the game opens; Show all shows every score as soon as the round’s broadcast is over. See hiding results.
  • Units — player height and weight in North American or European units.
  • Language — the language the game is shown in.
  • Hide lineup assignments — hides the line, pair, special-teams and goalie tags on your roster.
  • Display affiliate assignments — shows the players you have assigned to your affiliate in your main roster.

Your profile

Your profile is how other managers know you. Under Profile you can change your nationality and your community alias; press Save changes when you are done.

  • Display name — you choose it when you start, on the Name your manager step, where a suggestion is filled in that you can keep. Choose it with care: after that it is fixed, and only support (support@gameplanhockey.com) can change it.
  • Nationality — shows as your flag on your manager card and in a world’s list of managers. It plays no part in the game.
  • Community alias — your Discord username. The community lives on Discord; see community.

My manager card, in the user menu, opens your card as other managers see it: your name and flag, your reputation, your career record, your current clubs and your history season by season. Your own view also shows how many career slots you use. Your email and your account details never appear on it.

Changing your email

Your email is your sign-in, so keep it to an address you can open. If you might lose access to it, change it while you can still sign in.

Under Profile, press Change email, enter the New email and press Send code. The code goes to the new address, which proves it is yours. Enter it and press Confirm change; from then on you sign in with the new address.

Premium

The whole game is free to play. Premium is for managers who back the game on Patreon, and it adds room and convenience — nothing in it makes a club stronger. No player, rating or result is for sale.

What Premium adds:

  • Clubs — two clubs, in two different worlds, against one.
  • Where you start — any level, the Golden Hockey League included. A free manager starts lower, and his reputation opens the levels above.
  • Trades — trusted trading: deals that look uneven on paper can go through when the other side is trusted too. A free manager makes balanced trades until his reputation reaches Successful.
  • Shortlist — no limit on its size.
  • Saved lineups — five per club against one. See lineup.
  • Chat and notifications — the full chat history, and notifications kept far longer.
  • Jersey numbers, club name, jersey and mascot — change them whenever you like, and choose from every mascot.
  • The crest on your jersey — the front of your jersey can wear the crest without the team name, and the crest can be made larger or smaller and moved up or down on the chest: in Edit franchise…, the Premium group on the Jersey tab holds Show the team name on the jersey, Crest size and Crest position.
  • More jersey blocks — more blocks to build your jersey from, such as yokes, chest bands, side panels and cuffs, some in a fourth group, Chest: in Edit franchise…, open Advanced on the Jersey tab and pick one from Add a block, where the Premium ones are marked. A block already on your jersey stays there if your Premium ends.
  • Your own club logo — a logo of your own in place of the club’s mascot. See your own club logo.
  • Suspensions — an account flagged by the cheat check is reviewed by hand before anything happens; a free account is suspended automatically. See fair play.

Live games, the Scouting Center, the game report and the pre-game view are for every manager, and reputation counts on both plans (see manager career). The Pricing page has the full comparison and the price.

Getting Premium through Patreon

Premium is a monthly pledge on Patreon; this site never takes payment. Backers get a Coupon code each month on Patreon and redeem it under Account in Settings.

A code gives Premium up to a date, shown beside your plan. A new code adds to the time you have left, and coupon time can only run so far ahead. Premium does not stop the moment coupon time ends: a short grace follows.

With Premium you can give your club a logo of your own. It takes the place of the club’s mascot wherever the crest shows, and every logo is reviewed before any other manager sees it.

Open Edit franchise… from the team page’s Actions menu, go to the Mascot tab and choose My logos. Under Upload a logo, choose your image, tick the box to confirm that you have the right to use it and that it follows the rules for uploaded content in the terms and conditions, and press Send for review. Once the logo is Approved, pick it and press Save franchise.

The image must be a still PNG or WebP with a transparent background; the upload box gives the sizes it accepts. An image with a solid background, an animated image, or another format such as SVG or JPG is refused at once, with the reason. If your image has a background, remove it in your own image tool before you upload: the game never removes a background for you. An accepted image has its empty margin trimmed and is centered, so it sits in the same square as every other crest.

When you choose an image, the jersey shows it trimmed and centered the way it will be saved, before anything is sent, and you are told at once if its background is not transparent. You can try a logo on your jersey this way without Premium; sending it for review takes Premium.

A logo is approved when it could be a real hockey club’s logo: a clear motif that still reads at crest size. It is turned down if it copies a real club or brand mark, shows a real person, breaks the rules on offensive content, or does not read as a hockey club’s logo, which is where memes and joke images land. Logos are usually reviewed within a few days. You get a notification either way; a rejection gives the reason, and you can send another. One logo waits for review at a time, and uploads are limited each day. Until a logo is approved, only you can see it: no club shows it and no other manager can open it.

My logos keeps every logo you have uploaded with its state: Waiting for review, Approved, Rejected or Withdrawn. It holds five; delete one that no club wears to make room. The logo belongs to you, not to a club: you can put an approved logo on any club you run, but not on an affiliate. To go back to a mascot from the game’s collection, pick one in the Mascot tab as usual.

A club goes back to the mascot it wore before your logo:

  • When you leave it, by resigning or being released. The next manager never inherits your logo.
  • When your Premium ends. You get a notification. Your logos stay in My logos, and an approved one is marked Resting until Premium returns. Once Premium is back you can put it on again, with no new review.
  • When the logo is withdrawn after approval, for example after a report. You get a notification with the reason.

Worth knowing

  • Premium does not stop the moment coupon time ends: a short grace follows.
  • Reputation counts on either plan: a Successful manager can make trusted trades and a World Class manager runs one more club, with or without Premium.
  • Your display name is fixed once you start; only support can change it.
  • Redeeming a new code before your coupon time runs out adds to it; nothing is lost.
  • Your email and your account details never appear on your manager card.
