Team stats
Your club's record, goals and special teams, season by season, are under Stats on your team page; the league page sets every club side by side. Advanced adds Corsi for the shot attempts, PDO for finishing and saves, and expected goals for how good your chances were.
On this page
Team stats show how your club has done: its record, its goals, its power play and penalty kill, and under Advanced who gets the shot attempts and how good the chances are. Your team page keeps them season by season; the league page sets every club side by side.
Your team’s stats
Open Stats on your team page and choose Team. Each row is a season, the newest first, and the current season is highlighted.
Display, above the table, switches between Regular Season and Playoffs, and between Standard and Advanced. The table starts with your ten most recent seasons; Load more seasons brings the rest.
| Column | What it counts |
|---|---|
| GP | Games played |
| W | Wins in regulation |
| OTW | Wins in overtime or a shootout |
| OTL | Losses in overtime or a shootout |
| L | Losses in regulation |
| PTS | Points from those results |
| GF, GA | Goals for and against |
| SOW, SOL | The overtime wins and losses that were decided in a shootout |
| PP% | The share of your power plays you scored on |
| PK% | The share of the opponents’ power plays you killed |
| HW, HOTW, HOTL, HL | The same results in home games only |
A shootout win counts under both OTW and SOW, so don’t add the two together. There are no road columns: your road record is what is left when you take the home results from the totals. Penalties that cancel each other out give no power play. How points are counted, and what they decide, is on leagues.
Regular-season games count under Regular Season. Every playoff game — the Golden Cup, the promotion playoffs and the relegation playoffs — counts under Playoffs. Preseason games count in neither.
An affiliate’s page, like the page of any club outside the playable leagues, shows skater and goalie stats only, with no Team view.
Comparing with the league
To see your club against the rest of the league, open Stats on the league page and choose Teams. Every club in the league is a row, and Basic and Advanced sit beside the choice, out in the open. If you want to see where your club ranks, use the league page; if you want to see how its record, goals and special teams have changed over the seasons, use your team page.
The league table has the same columns as your team page; under Advanced it adds POS, each club’s place in the standings, and GP. Press a column heading such as PTS or CF% to sort by it, and a club’s name to open its page. Display switches between Regular Season and Playoffs, and the season menu at the top of the league page picks an earlier season. All time lists players and goalies only, not teams.
The league’s Standings also offer Team stats and Advanced views of the same tables, one conference at a time and for the regular season only. The standings themselves are explained on leagues.
Advanced stats
Advanced shows who gets the shot attempts, how well you finish and save, and how good your chances were. Choose Advanced under Display on your team page, or Advanced on the league page.
Most of these numbers count even strength only: both teams have the same number of skaters on the ice, five on five, four on four, and three on three in overtime. xG, xGA and G−xG are the exception; they count power plays and penalty kills too.
| Column | What it counts |
|---|---|
| CF | Corsi for: your shot attempts at even strength |
| CA | Corsi against: the opponents’ shot attempts at even strength |
| CF% | Your share of all the shot attempts in your games |
| ES S% | The share of your shots on goal that went in |
| ES SV% | The share of the opponents’ shots on goal you saved |
| PDO | ES S% and ES SV% added together |
| xG | Expected goals: what your chances were worth |
| xGA | Expected goals against: what the opponents’ chances were worth |
| xGF% | Your share of the expected goals at even strength |
| G−xG | Your goals less your expected goals |
Your goalies’ save percentage on the Goalies view counts every shot on goal, at every strength, so it differs from the team’s ES SV%.
Corsi
Corsi counts shot attempts: shots on goal, goals included, shots that missed the net, and shots that were blocked. A CF% above half means your club has more of the shot attempts than its opponents; below half, fewer.
Attempts come in waves. After a shot that misses, a block the defender can’t control, or a rebound the goalie can’t hold, the attacking club may win the puck back and shoot again in the same shift. The stronger its attack against the defense on the ice, the more often it does.
Corsi from seasons played before October 2026 was counted differently, so compare CF within a season, not across the years.
PDO
PDO adds your even-strength shooting percentage to your even-strength save percentage. Every even-strength goal one club scores is one another club concedes, so across a league PDO evens out around 100. Above it, your club is finishing and saving better than the league as a whole; below it, worse.
If your CF% is above half but your goal difference doesn’t show it, the attempts are there but the goals are not. CF counts blocked and missed attempts too, so many of yours may be getting blocked or going wide; ES S% and PDO count only the shots that reach the net. Then look at PDO for finishing and saving, and at PP% and PK%, since goals on special teams fall outside Corsi.
The same measures exist for each skater while he is on the ice; see player stats.
Expected goals
Expected goals (xG) say how good your chances were, not only how many. Every scoring chance that isn’t blocked, on goal or wide of the net, is worth what such a chance usually yields at your league’s level. Add them up over a game or a season and you have the goals your chances were worth: xG for yours, xGA for the opponents’.
A chance’s value comes from its situation, not from how good the shooter or the goalie is:
- how hard the defense pressed the shooter;
- how well the chance was set up;
- whether it came on the power play, at even strength or on the penalty kill;
- which hand the shooter shoots with against the goalie’s, and on the power play whether he shoots from his off side;
- the attacking team’s offensive system (see tactics);
- whether he shoots from a forward spot or a defense spot (see defenseman roles).
A blocked shot carries no expected goals, and a shot that misses the net keeps its value, as in the public expected-goals models of NHL hockey. A long shot, taken when an attack breaks down or when the attackers win the puck back and shoot again, is worth a little: it rarely goes in. The quick shot thrown at the net as a scrambled chance forms carries none; the game never turns it into a goal. At even strength, all of them still count in Corsi. Shootout attempts are left out of expected goals.
xG and xGA count every strength. xGF% is your share of the expected goals at even strength only, like CF%: above half, your club had the better chances at even strength. G−xG is your goals less your xG. Above zero, your club scored more than its chances were worth; below zero, fewer. The goal that decides a shootout is left out of it.
If your CF% is above half but your xGF% is below half, you have more of the attempts but the opponents’ chances were worth more.
Each league level has its own measure, so your chances are valued at what they usually yield at your level. An affiliate is measured against every level together.
Expected goals start with the games played after they were added to the game. Seasons before that show ”—”. When Game Plan Hockey measures the values anew, the season under way starts its expected goals over with the games played after that. A season that straddles their arrival, or that restart, shows values for its later games only, and G−xG compares them with the goals of those same games; the value carries a †, the note under the table explains it, and on a computer, pointing at the mark shows how many of the season’s games it rests on.
Worth knowing
- W counts only wins in regulation. Wins in overtime or a shootout sit under OTW, and SOW is the part of those decided in a shootout.
- ES S% and ES SV% count even-strength play only, so the team’s ES SV% is not your goalies’ save percentage.
- Corsi counts every shot attempt at even strength: on goal, wide of the net or blocked. Seasons played before October 2026 counted it differently, so compare CF within a season.
- Promotion and relegation playoff games count under Playoffs, not in the regular-season line.
- xG, xGA and G−xG count every strength, power plays and penalty kills included; xGF% counts even strength only, like CF%.
