Your manager career
Your career is the clubs you run, one per game world, and the reputation you build with them. Reputation grows with wins, strong finishes, promotions and cups, and it decides which leagues you can start in, whether you can make uneven trades, and whether you can run an extra club.
On this page
You manage clubs in game worlds, one club in each world you play in. What you do with them builds your manager reputation, and your reputation decides where you can start next. Your whole record is on your manager card.
Your careers
A career is one club in one game world. On the free plan you run one club; with Premium you run two, in two different worlds. Switch between them from Your teams in the sidebar.
A World Class manager runs one more club, on either plan. Your own manager card shows how many career slots you have and how many you use. When every slot is in use, Find new team says so and offers no club until you resign from one. You can never run two clubs in the same world. Single-league worlds are open to Premium managers only.
Taking over a club
Open Find new team from the menu under your name, pick a world, and press Take control on the club you want. A new manager with no club lands there on his own, usually with a world and a club already picked under Your team awaits.
The world list shows only worlds where you don’t run a club yet. In a world, the game proposes an open club from the highest league open to you, and See other open teams shows the rest with their place in the standings. If every open club in a world plays above your reputation, the world tells you so.
If you choose between a club near the top of a lower league and one fighting to stay up in a higher one, weigh both sides: in the higher league every game and the season finish count for more, while a promotion counts the same at any level and a relegation sets you back.
You take over the club as it stands: its roster, its contracts, its place in the league and its history. Next comes Make it yours, where you pick the city, the name, the colors and the crest. You can change them as often as you like until the club has played its first game under you, and never for less than a week; Skip for now leaves them as they are.
Manager reputation
Reputation is your standing as a manager, in five ranks: Rookie, Promising, Experienced, Successful and World Class. Your rank shows on your manager card and in a world’s Managers list. Win games, finish high and win promotion to raise it.
A win adds to your reputation and a win by a wide margin adds a little more; an overtime win adds less, an overtime loss neither adds nor costs, and a regulation loss costs. Preseason games count for less, and a preseason loss costs nothing. At the end of the season your finish counts too: the higher you finish, the more it adds. A promotion and a Golden Cup add; a relegation costs.
Where you play changes the weight:
- Games and season finishes count for more in a higher league and less in a lower one.
- Promotion, relegation and the Golden Cup count the same at every level.
- Games and season finishes count for more in a slower world and less in a faster one.
What you earn turns into reputation a step at a time, not all at once. A rank, once earned, is never lost: losses and relegations slow the climb toward the next one. Each club’s results are counted on their own, so two clubs build your reputation from both; a bad season at one never takes away what the other earns. Your reputation grows only while you run a club; what you earned before waits until you take one again. Resigning does not change it.
What reputation opens
When you take over a club, your rank decides the highest league you can start in:
| Rank | Highest league you can start in |
|---|---|
| Rookie | Copper Hockey League |
| Promising | Bronze Hockey League |
| Experienced | Bronze Hockey League |
| Successful | Silver Hockey League |
| World Class | Golden Hockey League |
With Premium you can start in any league, the Golden Hockey League included. The ceiling counts only when you take a club: a club you run can be promoted past it. Single-league worlds have no ceiling.
Reputation opens more than leagues:
- Successful or better: trades the game judges uneven can go through. Every manager in the trade must be Successful or better, or have Premium; a computer-run club never stands in the way. See trades.
- World Class: one more club, on either plan.
- Players notice it. Your reputation counts when a player decides whether to sign or re-sign with your club, how he ranks your contract offer against others, and how keen he is to stay. Your club’s own reputation is a separate thing; see team reputation.
Your manager card
Your manager card is your record across every world. Open it from My manager card in the menu under your name. Other managers reach it from your name on your team page, from a world’s Managers list and from the world’s Golden Cup winners.
The top of the card shows your rank, your career record (W-OTW-OTL-L), your games coached and your seasons. Below it:
- The trophy case holds your Golden Cups and promotions.
- The milestones: Seasons, Matches, Win share, Golden Cups, Promotions and Worlds.
- Current careers: one card per club. A card takes you to that club and switches world if it needs to. On your own card, the line beside the heading counts your career slots.
- Career history: season by season, with the league, the club, where you finished, your record and what you achieved.
On another manager’s card, Message manager opens a chat with him.
Resigning
To leave a club, choose Resign in the menu under your name, pick the career if you run more than one, and press and hold Resign. The club goes back to computer control at once, and you can’t undo it.
What happens when you go:
- Trade offers you made are withdrawn, and the other manager is told. Offers waiting for your answer stay with the club, and its new management answers them.
- Your shortlist and your pending scouting requests in that world are cleared.
- The league is told that you resigned.
- Your record with the club stays on your manager card.
If you have no club left, you go to Find your next club. If you resigned from the club you were on, you go to one of your other clubs; otherwise you stay where you are.
On the free plan, a short wait follows before you can take any new club, in any world; with Premium there is none. Leaving a single-league world also brings a wait before you can join another single-league world, on any plan. The Resign window tells you which wait applies, and during the free-plan wait Find new team shows the time left.
A club can also be taken from a manager who stays away too long. See manager absence.
Worth knowing
- A rank, once earned, is never lost; losses and relegations only slow the climb.
- Your reputation grows only while you run a club; what you earned before waits until you take one again.
- With two clubs, a bad season at one never takes away what the other earns.
- The league ceiling counts only when you take a club; a club you run can be promoted past it.
- Uneven trades go through only when every manager in them is Successful or better, or has Premium.
